Speak Low - on Acid Jazz Records
In sunny Spain in 2002, three friends decided to combine their musical talents and set up a Hammond trio. These three are Julian Maeso on Hammond organ, Jose Garcia on guitar and Antonio Pax on drums and go under the name of SPEAK LOW.
They honed their skills doing covers from Lonnie Smith, Brian Auger, Georgie Fame, Lou Donaldson, and The Meters. Influenced by these greats and through their ever-increasing experience of playing live, the trio quickly found their own unique sound and were soon playing their own compositions.
After two years burning clubs all around Spain, they were ready to lay down their hot sounds on record. With a new member in the band - a young talented saxophonist and horns arranger called Martin Garcia, a 5-piece horn section and new crazy percussionist David Garcia on board, they completed their fresh and funky first album I´M GONNA GROOVE YA, which will be released by ACID JAZZ RECORDS in May 2006.
You can get a taster of what is to come by listening to “In The Fridge”, their first released track on the Acid Jazz compilation OLD SCHOOL NEW COOL 2, which was released in summer 2005 (www.acidjazzrecords.co.uk).
After this successful start, they continued to build a fan-base by supporting THE JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET, SUGARMAN 3 with LEE FIELDS, and BIG BOSS MAN in brilliantly received appearances in Madrid. Their growing status was underlined when they were invited to play at the GIJÒN INTERNATIONAL YE-YE WEEKEND and PURPLE WEEKEND. On stage Alberto “el tigre del paral-lel”, or Josue Garcia on trumpet, now complete the band.
In a few short years SPEAK LOW have managed to build a reputation that now has them considered as one of the main references in the Groove Funk and Soul Jazz scenes.
